1528-1588 Paolo Veronese Galleries Italian painter and draughtsman. With Titian and Tintoretto he makes up the triumvirate of great painters of the late Renaissance in Venice. He is known as a supreme colourist and for his illusionistic decorations in both fresco and oil. His large paintings of biblical feasts executed for the refectories of monasteries in Venice and Verona are especially celebrated. He also produced many altarpieces, history and mythological paintings and portraits. His compositional sketches in pen, ink and wash, figure studies in chalk, and chiaroscuro modelli and ricordi form a significant body of drawings. Carel Jacobus Behr
(9 July 1812 in The Hague - 11 November 1895) was a Dutch painter, watercolorist and draftsman. He was a pupil of Bartholomeus Johannes van Hove and mainly painted cityscapes, genre scenes and portraits. In 1836 he produced, commissioned by The Hague municipal government, an image of the town hall there, which carried off the approval of connoisseurs. In 1837 he became a member of the Royal Academy in Amsterdam. His work is found in various collections and different exhibitions, like at the Hague in 1839, Rotterdam in 1840 and again at the Hague in 1841.
Joos van Craesbeeck
(c. 1605/06- c. 1660) was a Flemish painter who specialized in tavern interiors, tronies, and other works similar to his teacher Adriaen Brouwer. Born in Neerlinter (Flemish Brabant), he became a master in Antwerp's guild of St. Luke in 1633?C1634, and like his contemporaries David Teniers the Elder and David Rijckaert III he developed rustic genre scenes. He subsequently moved to Brussels, where he joined that city's painters' guild in 1651. Paintings such as Death is Violent and Fast are typical of his small, theatrical images of peasants brawling crowded with violent expressive figures. Unlike Teniers, whose style became more elegant, Craesbeeck continued to paint bawdy figures later in his career.
